We Have Eternal Life -- Right?

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

As I was driving my nine-year old granddaughter to dance class she was changing radio stations and talking non-stop about songs and friends. It was hard to tell which was which. She never fails to tell me she can only listen to "age-appropriate" music. I smile and think good thoughts about my daughter and frown at the same time thinking about our fallen world where inappropriate words are freely blared out for any one to hear them. How many parents take time to monitor this antagonizing invasion on young minds?

"Oh I don't like this one" she said. "They are singing about living forever."

A lump in my throat threatened to cut off my voice. It is not often I have a chance to talk about Jesus with my granddaughter. "There is only one way to have eternal life and that is to ask Jesus to come into your heart."

Without missing a breath she casually says "Our family knows this,---right?" and in the next breath changed the radio station.

In her mind she was trusting "our" family to know about eternal life. A childlike trust. The kind that Jesus says we should all have. "--Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3

How often do we take for granted what someone else knows about Jesus and salvation?

Lord, help us to keep a child-like mind for you and unconcern for public opinion and social status. Just as we teach our children to trust their earthly father and mother help us to teach others about your love and grace.

Give some peace of mind today,
Carma
